Lamar Odom Needs The Lakers And Lakers Need Lamar

by on July 23, 2009

So it's become obvious that Lamar Odom wants to cash in on what might be his last big contract in the NBA since his value seems to be declining...

Declining you say?

Yea you see LO made 15 million bucks last year and the best offers on the table right now seem to both be hovering around $10 million per season. The Los Angeles Lakers offering $10 mil per season and the Miami Heat offering just under that. Why the pay cut?

It's become apparent over his last couple of contracts that LO isn't a number one scoring option. While he may have tons of potential he tends to disappear at times. Probably on the nights when he forgets to eat a handful of gummy bears before the game...

If Lamar Odom signs with the Lakers there's a good chance that he'll never start again for the rest of his career. LO is basically a sixth man who's about to get paid $10 mil a year. Not a bad gig but you also can't blame Lamar for trying to get paid.

The Los Angeles Lakers will pay him that or pay him whatever it takes because to them it means an NBA championship. That's what Lamar Odom means to them. To another team he's probably a guy they overpaid to underperform but on the Lakers he spells championship because the Lakers can afford to use him as a 3rd or 4th scoring option and that's where Lamar excels.

Plain and simple Lamar sucks a#$ and he ha s sucked a%$ throughout his career whenever he's been asked to be a consistent #1 or #2 scoring option. Too much pressure for him.

But use Lamar the way the Lakers use Lamar and he becomes the biggest mismatch the league has ever seen. Lamar Odom is a long armed 6'11 skilled ball handler that can shoot from long distance and play all five positions on the court!  You can't cover a guy like that as the NBA found out last season.

And that's why the Lakers need to pay him. Without him the NBA season would be very interestingnext season.

With him the Lakers are the favorites again to repeat this season.

And taking everything above into consideration that's why the Miami Heat offer scares me so much...

The Miami Heat have Dwyane Wade, it sounds like they're going to sign Carlos Boozer and they already have Jermaine O'Neal who is a fraction of his former self but he's still Jermaine O'Neal and Lamar Odom would make them an instant threat for the title. LO also has a house in Miami and is good friends with Wade...

Not good if you ask me because that's what you call a legitimate option especially if they go ahead and sign Carlos Boozer... Lakers need to step up and pay the man before the Miami Heat can make themselves an even more an enticing offer.
